Last week I was away and emailed hubby a list of vegetables I needed for green smoothies. By in large, he did a pretty good job with the list, with the exception of Kale. Kale looks like this:
And this is what he bought, which is called green kohlrabi.
I'm not even sure where he found it, never saw it before. It is the correct color and leafy but I'm not sure if I can juice it. How do I use this, do I just put it in a salad?
In my own defence, it was green and leafy (and I am not telling that joke that little boys love so much!) and it was under the sign "Kale" in the grocery store. I confess I was confused by the name but it did start with a "K" and I figured it was just a German name for Kale, or else it is a new name to replace the old one because the old one is just too boring or for some other reason, like they renamed "rapeseed" as "canola" some years ago.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a funny movie my daughter introduced me to, Death at a Funeral (the original, British version). It cracks us up. There is a line from the movie "Everything is so green!"
ReplyDeleteI love Kale and especially love kale in smoothies. I don't know if you should eat whatever he brought home or not. I like that he tried!
ReplyDeleteAlan, It was a good attempt, thank you.
ReplyDeleteMakk, Thanks for your comment, if I sent you out to get kale what would you have bought me? Do they have kale there?
Clarence, I'm going to watch that movie, I can always use a good laugh.
Climb2nowwhere, I'm glad that he tried too. It was one way to introduce him to what is in the smoothies. It took some doing but I finally got him to drink green smoothies, now to work on my son.
Kohlrabi is like broccoli stems. It is very good raw, and does belong in smoothies. The big round part should be cut in thin slices. Try it yourself, you'll probably love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jael,
ReplyDeleteI ended up juicing it. It gave the smoothie a wonderful texture. : )
